
One person was killed in a gunfight in Rangamati’s Kaptai upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Samrat Chakma, 32, a member of Jana Sanghati Samity (Santu Larma faction), reports our Rangamati correspondent quoting Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chandraghona Police Station.
The gunfight took place between members of JSS (Santu Larma faction) and Mogh National Party (MNP) in the remote Gangrichhara area of ward 4 of Raikhali union between 2:00pm and 4:00pm yesterday, the police official said.
However, upon being contacted, JSS and MNP have denied their involvement in the incident.
A joint patrol team of the army and police recovered the body and brought it to Chandraghona Police Station around midnight yesterday. The body was kept in police custody, the OC said.
When contacted, Monkya Marma, chairman of no 2 Raikhali Union Parishad, said, “I came to know about the incident of firing between the two groups in Gangrichhara area from the UP member of ward 4.”
