Margao: The 10th Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Rashtra Adhiveshan that is underway at Ramnathi,
Ponda, has demanded enactment of a law against religious conversions at the national level and has called for amendment of the Constitution to prevent conversions Addressing the press on Tuesday, M Nageshwar Rao, former director of CBI, said that though many states in India already have laws against religious conversions, “there exists a conspiracy to openly convert Hindus in large numbers so as to break India into pieces and destroy it. Crores of rupees are flowing into various organisations for the purpose of religious conversions”.

“The issue of religious conversions exists at the national level. To stop this, article 25 of the Constitution needs to be amended and the words ‘propagate religion’ removed from it. There should be no obstacles in following one’s own religion. Besides, the Goa government must pass the requisite law in the assembly and send it to the central government. Only then can illegal
conversions be prevented completely,” he said. Welcoming chief minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that a law would soon be passed against religious conversions in the state, Sadguru Charudatta Pingale, national guide, Hindu Janjagruti Sanstha (HJS), said that the constitution must be amended and that an anti-proselytising law be enacted in Goa.
