According to the report, cases of untouchability, assault, mass violence and gender discrimination have also come up during the Corona period. The report says that between April and June, more than 100 cases of atrocities on Dalits occurred. This included cases of murder, attempt to murder, police beatings, physical abuse etc. These cases came from Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Maharashtra.

How many cases increased in 10 years

This report by the National Dalit Movement for Justice says that atrocities against Scheduled Castes increased by 27.3 percent in 2018 as compared to 2009. Atrocities against Scheduled Tribes have increased by 20.3 percent in the last 10 years. The report says that the chances of atrocities on Dalits are very high in 40 percent of the districts of 10 states.

Earlier, the National Crime Records Bureau also gave a report on Dalits and minorities. In this report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), statistics related to prisoners lodged in jails of the country were presented on different grounds like caste, religion. These figures showed that the number of Dalits, Adivasis and Muslims in jails is more than the proportion of their population.
