In Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, there was a fierce ruckus between the tribal sarpanch and his supporters regarding
the last rites of a Dalit. After the altercation, the situation came to a scuffle. Eight people have been arrested after members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community clashed over the use of a crematorium.
According to the police, as soon as the body was lit, the sarpanch and some other people came to the spot. These people were from the tribal community. He said that only those people can use the crematorium, this place is reserved for them. Soon the controversy escalated. People from the other side allegedly kicked the pyre and threw water. Not only this, the accused also tried to throw the dead body.
The video of this incident went viral on social media, in which some people are trying to extinguish the burning pyre. At the same time, the police officer said that there was a clash between two groups regarding this incident. A team was sent to the spot with immediate effect to control the situation. At the same time, the villagers protested against this incident.
Along with this, the road was also blocked demanding the arrest of the accused.
Police said that 8 people, including sarpanch Jagdish Oraon, have been arrested under IPC sections 147 (rioting) and 297 (encroachment on burial places). However, the body was later cremated in the presence of the police.
