Dalit man beaten to death over land dispute

Agra: A 50-year-old dalit man was allegedly beaten to death in Udesar Rudra Singh village under Eka police station of Firozabad district on Sunday. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

filed by Sonam, daughter of the deceased, a group of people belonging to the upper caste community attacked jai Singh and his family members while they were feeding cattle. Jai suffered head injuries after he was thrashed with sticks. He died on the spot. Three others, including Jai’s brother ompal , were injured.

Ompal alleged that three brothers named Omveer, Awadesh and Dharmveer Singh were pressuring Jai to vacate the plot he had purchased from a local resident in 2021. All three accused are residents of Jodhpur Mudaiya village. “They were trying to grab our land. In February, they had threatened to kill my father if he didn’t vacate the plot. We had informed the police about the incident, but no action was taken,” said Sonam. Additional superintendent of police Akhilesh Narayan said, “An FIR has been registered against six people, including three unidentified men. Two of the accused have been arrested.”
