Wayanad: Raju, a 30-year-old Adivasi wager from Kattunaykka colony near Andoor here has reportedly fallen prey to the exploitation of the estate owner for four years.
The estate owner employed him with an offer of Rs 300/day. Four years have passed and Raju said he has only got Rs 14,000 over the years. He alleged that the owner neither provided adequate food nor proper shelter.
The owner reportedly made him work for 11 hours without any rest. When he demanded money, the owner allegedly thrashed him and threatened his mother.
According to Raju, the owner had taken him to Koduvally estate in Kozhikode. There also he faced a similar plight, he alleged.
All these revelations came out after locals intervened and rescued him over alleged slavery-like ill-treatment. He was rescued by a WhatsApp group member in Andoor town.
Meanwhile, the estate owner Nazar maintains that Raju has been with him for a long time and he has not treated him like a worker. Over the matter, Raju’s mother has lodged a police complaint.
