Ankit (18), a resident of Padaria Chet Singh village under Rudhauli police station area of Basti district, used to work as a laborer at Irshad of the same village. Ankit is survived by his four brothers, a sister and his parents, including Ankit. He was the youngest in his family and lived in the village and used to work as a laborer in the house of a Muslim family to feed the family. Ankit’s relatives tell that, Ankit used to do farming, domestic work and driving his tractor at his (accused) house, and used to eat most of his food at his house.
Ankit’s mother told The Mooknayak that, “A day before the incident his mother (the mother of the accused) had called my son from my house.”
“On Friday evening between 7 and 8 pm, he left home after having dinner. His phone was ringing continuously. After eating a little food in a hurry, he left the house with a mobile. He went to Irshad’s house. Because the calls (accused) of those same people used to come on his mobile the most. He went in the night but did not come back. The next evening my brother’s body was found in a sugarcane field,” Ankit’s elder brother Sandeep (22) told The Mooknayak
Sandeep took the names of Irshad and Irfan, who are both brothers, and Ankit used to work in their house while telling about the alleged accused of brother. It was Irshad and Irfan’s sister Amina Khatoon, with whom Sandeep was allegedly having a love affair.
Ankit’s mobile found behind the accused’s house
Sandeep further told that, “We heard in the morning that his (accused) sister is dead, so I also called to my brother, but his phone was not responding. Many other people also called on brother’s mobile, but his phone did not pick up. After a lot of searching, my brother’s phone was found in the evening behind the girl’s house, and her body was found in a sugarcane field some distance away. On seeing the dead body, I informed the local police. My brother’s private part was also cut. Sandeep said, “We are very poor. All of us brothers work hard to run the family. My brother used to do harwahi (worker doing every household chore) at his house. He mostly stayed with them, ate and slept there.”
“We cannot say with confidence that there was a love affair with brother, but many people of the village used to tell me that there is going to be a kand (forecast of something untoward) in the village. So we used to instruct our brother to stay in the house after persuasion. But he didn’t listen to anyone.” Sandeep said, “Brother, as soon as he came home for 5-10 minutes, he used to get calls from those people immediately. There were so many calls from those people on brother’s mobile that no government service person would have called on the mobile.
Post mortem report not found
“We have got the body after the post-mortem only yesterday, and we have also cremated it. But we have not received the post-mortem report yet.” Ankit’s brother expressed dissatisfaction with the police and said.
