‘India’s Dalit community faces systemic persecution by upper-caste Hindus’

POSTED ON JULY 19, 2022

India’s Dalit community has faced systemic persecution by so-called upper-caste Hindus for ages and after Anti-Conversion bill brought in, the entire situation has emboldened right-wing Hindu extremists to unleash a reign of terror on the oppressed minorities living in India.

Sociologist Sanjay Srivastava said, besides being an exercise of power by upper-caste members, sexual violence is also a method used by upper-caste men to show lower-caste men that they were unable to “protect” their women – they use rape as a tool to stage a “contest” among men.

Recently, a 30-year-old Dalit woman from Kosi Kalan area has lost her leg, almost two months after she was gang-raped and the involved person crushed her leg with a motorbike.

The woman had to undergo surgery to amputate her left leg and the woman’s family finally lodged a complaint after weeks of rushing her from one hospital to another.

India is on the path to self-destruction with its Hindutva policy targeting all minorities and other castes living in India.

An Indian writer, Khushwant Singh, has predicted doom for India due to its self-destruction course.

It is time for oppressed Dalits to get united against oppression and challenge the upper caste Hindus to get their rights.
