BHOPAL: A tribal youth in Rewa district has complained to police that he was beaten up by four strangers for having a Birsa Munda sticker on his motorcycle a week ago, and that they are repeatedly threatening another tribal who tried to save him.

The complainant, Deepak Kumar Kol, says he was beaten in Rambagh in Panwar region, around 70km from the Rewa district HQ, on November 16.

“I was out buying groceries when four men attacked me from behind. They thrashed me black and blue and I did not even know them. There was only one thing – that my motorcycle had a sticker of Birsa Munda. Another tribal tried to intervene, but they beat him too. Now, they are threatening him,” Kol told TOI over phone.

Panwar police station in-charge, Mahendra Singh said police had registered an FIR over the assault under IPC and SC/ST (Protection of Atrocities) Act. “We have received a fresh complaint that they have threatened one of the victims. We are investigating the complaint and will take appropriate action,” he said.
