A mentally challenged man was tied to a tree and tortured allegedly for stealing fishes from a paddy field in Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat Upazila.

A video of the torture went viral on social media. The video showed that Sumon, 25, was tied up with a tree and was beaten with sticks.

He was beaten up mercilessly by Faraz Ali, 55, Shaharul Islam, 45, and Mostafizur, 32, on Friday.

The victim has been admitted to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex.

Sumon’s elder brother Saiful Islam lodged a complaint with Ghoraghat police station accusing the trio on Saturday night.

Abu Hasan Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghoraghat police station, confirmed the matter.

According to the case, plaintiff Saiful and his brother went to the paddy field to collect some fishes trapped in the net they had set the night before.

Later, the trio accused them of stealing fish from the field and tortured Sumon.

Saiful alleged that the trio had intended to kill his brother.
