ALWAR: Over 100 Dalit families fled from Sah village under Kumher police station area of Bharatpur district following a threat from anti-social elements, allegedly belonging to Gujjar community, to leave the village on Tuesday.
The families, including women, the elderly and children, were seen protesting at the district magistrate’s office with their belongings earlier in the day. The fleeing by these families is seen as linked to the clash between Dalits and the Gujjar community over holding Ambedkar Jayanti rally on the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar on April 14.
At the protest, the Dalit families demanded justice and protection. Sensing the gravity of the problem, the administration arranged food and water for all of them and gave them a patient hearing. Bharatpur DM Alok Ranjan said, “It cannot be called an exodus. The families have definitely come with their belongings, but they have come to raise their concern…”
