RAJKOT: The tension prevails in Kutch following murder of a Dalit advocate on Friday evening. The Dalit community did not accept the dead body demanding to arrest the accused in this case. The members of the community blocked various roads on Friday night to express their anger.
Devji Maheshwari, resident of Rapar town in Kutch and a practicing lawyer since last 20 years, was stabbed on Friday evening when he was on his way to his office. He succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to hospital.
Talking to TOI border range, IG J R Mothaliya said, “We conducted combing operations during the night and rounded up a few accused. We are investigating and will arrest the accused soon.” When asked about motive behind the crime, he said “It’s difficult to say about motive of murder till the time accused is arrested.”
The members of the community had blocked few roads on Friday night including Gadhshisha Chokdi, Mankuva on Bhuj-Lakhpat highway, Oslo circle in Gandhidham town, Madhapar and Mundra to express their anger. Naresh Maheshwari, president of Dalit Adhikar Manch, said, “We restrained ourselves from agitation because police gave us assurance to arrest the accused soon. We did not accept the dead body and if police won’t arrest the accused soon we will start our agitation.”
