Udupi: Video of teacher’s talk stokes controversy – Organizations demand apology

Udupi, Jul 14: A teacher from Santhekatte near here had taken part in the state level elocution competition organized by Karnataka Rajya Shikshakara Pratibha Parishath, Mysuru. The video of her talk has given rise to controversy.

Dalit organizations have been up in arms against the said teacher for not referring to Dr B R Ambedkar in her talk on the Indian Constitution. The organizations have expressed strong resentment at this aspect.

The lady teacher works at the government school at Santhekatte. The YouTube video of her talk had given rise to debate in the social media as it did not make a mention about Ambedkar. The Dalit leaders had contacted the teacher and urged her to seek an apology. The teacher, through an audio, had expressed her regret for this omission. But the Dalit organizations insisted that she should tender apology in person. Dalit leader, Jayan Malpe, said that the teacher, who had promised to tender an apology again, is not available for contact.

Jayan Malpe sought an apology from the teacher for insulting Ambedkar. He warned that complaint will be lodged against the teacher with the deputy commissioner of the district and deputy director of public instruction. He also said that complaint with the cyber-crime police will be lodged against YouTube channel which aired this video.
