Agra: In an alleged incident of honour killing in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad, a 42-year-old man killed his 19-year-old daughter by slitting her neck with a saw on Friday over her affair with a man from another caste.
Senior police officials said that the accused identified as Manoj Rathore, a resident of Tilaknagar locality in Firozabad who worked in a bangle-making unit, has confessed to having committed the crime, as per the Times of India (TOI) report.
As per police, the deceased girl Ruchi Rathore was in an inter-caste relationship with 21-year-old Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Etah in Uttar Pradesh. Though Manoj was against the relationship with his daughter, she continued to be in contact and meet Sudhir for the last one year. Infuriated over this, Manoj allegedly killed his daughter while she was sleeping in her room on Friday.
Manoj is a father of four including three daughters and Ruchi was the eldest among them, said police as reported by TOI.
Additional superintendent of police, Akhilesh Narain Singh said that during the interrogation, Manoj confessed that he killed his daughter by slitting her throat with a saw.
“Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother, Manoj was arrested from his home. An FIR has been registered against him under IPC section 302 (punishment for murder and the body has been sent for post-mortem,” informed Singh.
Ruchi’s mother Nageena told TOI that when she did not come down from her room which is on the first floor of the house till 9 am on Friday, she asked her husband to call her. “When I asked my husband to call her, he informed me about the murder. I am not aware of the exact time when my daughter was killed. Later, I informed the police about the incident,” she added.
“My daughter was innocent. She did not deserve to be killed like this. The madness of my husband has ruined our family,” Nageena rued.
Narendra Kumar Sharma, SHO (north), Firozabad meanwhile said that Manoj has confessed that he murdered his daughter as she continued her relationship with a man called Sudhir who is from another caste.
“Manoj had found his daughter with him at his home on Wednesday evening. He had earlier threatened both to kill if they continued with the relationship. However, his daughter had been adamant to marry the man. Sudhir has also been called to the police station for questioning,” further said Sharma as quoted by TOI.
