Kanpur: Four people including a village head have been booked for beating up a Dalit man in Daya Ka Purva village of Mangalpur police station of Jhinjhak in Kanpur Dehat district.
Mukesh’s father Khushi Lal,, a resident of Majre Dayakapurwa village of Parjani village, had bought the land 20 years ago from Jairam of the village.
Mukesh at present is living in a house constructed on the same building.
However, Jairam’s son, village head Sultan and his brother Jagatpal, along with his son Mohit and nephew Sachin, on March 20 waylaid Mukesh when he was going home. When they asked him to vacate the house, he protested, after which they beat up Mukesh severely with sticks. Later, Mukesh with a complaint approached the Mangalpur police. Police had got his medical examination done but his report was not registered.
Peeved over which, Mukesh had sent a letter to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Minister, warning them to sit on a fast outside the DM office from April 13 if the case was not registered till April 12. On Wednesday night, the police registered a case against four including the village head for assault and threatening to kill him and under the SC/ST Act.
Police station in-charge Mangalpur SK Mishra said that a case has been registered and investigations are on. “Action will be taken on the basis of evidence,” he added.
